Rotel RB850 Power Amplifier (Note - Pair for sale)
THIS LISTING IS FOR ONE AMPLIFIER (see my other listings for 2nd Amp)
35 years old, but in good condition.
Recenty tested and working fine (Both Amps)
I have a pair of these Rotel RB850's that I used to Bi-Amp a pair of 1990's Kef Reference Model 1's
One stereo amp powering the UniQ drivers (Tweeter and mid / bass)
Then using the 2nd Amp to power the Sub/Bass drivers in the Kefs lower cavity.
Great sounding power amp(s) that really do perform well above their price point
(Replaced with Naim NAP250DR)
Ideally I would like to sell as a pair (offers welcome)
They have not been used in 8 years (since NAP250) but I have held onto them
as they are just sooooo good sounding for their current market value.
Small pieces of paper in pics / pen lid are there to highlight marks
They are very tidy, but their are some blemishes picked up over time.
Important Note. Both of these amps have been hardwired to operate in Stereo only
The bridge / mono switches have been removed.
History:
Amp 1 was purchase new, receipt available SN 25750
Then when used with Kef R1's I purchased a 2nd power amp (second hand) SN 82412
to see if using a pair in bridged mono (more power) would be a good upgrade.
I found myself settling for Bi-Amping (for me this sounded the best)
but some time later the "bridge switch" on one of the amps started to play up (no output)
My local repair shop could not source a switch but suggested the amp to be
hardwired to be "fixed" in stereo mode. This was done.
I then found the hardwired amp sounded better than the other, so the 2nd amp
also had the switch removed to fix it also into stereo mode.
Note the removed switch is poor quality and in some upgrade routes is removed.
A tech guy / repair shop I am sure could change the hardwire links to swap to Mono
if required, but I would recommend Stereo / Bi Amp from my experiences
The 2nd Amp (later SN) has a very poor box / no manual but overall amp condition is similar.
They can be demonstrated and collection is preferred, shipping costs NOT included
but shipping prices, options / methods can be discussed and agreed with the buyer.
